One of the weakest spots on Windows Mobile is the phone interface: the dialer, the contacts manager, the call log... Trying to use them on the Samsung Omnia without the stylus is a complete nightmare. The developers at Samsung have tried a little harder than the ones at Microsoft but still the Omnia's default phone interface leaves a lot to be desired.
I guess that's the main reason I'm going back to this subject on my Samsung Omnia Software blog. You may recall I wrote about the great contact manager Vito FunContact earlier - check the review here - and I had all but praise for that software, and I still do, but different strokes for different folks and I present you yet another suggestion.
I recently came across Iconsoft's PhonEx (short for Phone Extension), tested it on my Samsung Omnia and am truly impressed with this software. It is a shift from Windows Mobile as radical as FunContact but with a different flavour. So let's check it out.

Besides the mandatory big contact list (with pictures), the big call log and the big favorite contacts list - "big" as in optimized for finger usage - when you download Iconsoft PhonEx for your Omnia you will get a shell that:
- replaces the default dial pad with a big (almost fullscreen) one, when you press the start call button (the "green button")
- replaces the on-screen menu you get during calls with a beautiful new one with bigger buttons
- replaces the incoming caller id with a fullscreen one that is just amazing
- provides a today plugin to receive notifications and easily access favorites, logs, contacts, etc.
PhonEx is a must-have and the enhancements this software provides will take your Samsung Omnia to the next level, where it belongs.
